New students: preparation of your IT account

Take the confirmation e-mail you received from the UNIGE registration office with you: it contains your personal information used to carry out the procedures below.

1.    Choose and register your UNIGE password

• This password will allow you to access most of the digital services available to you (email, student portal, UNIGE mobile application, etc.). It is personal and non-transferable.
• After a period of 24 hours following your registration, go to mdp.unige.ch to register the password of your choice by clicking on 'Initialise/re-initialise password' with your login and your private e-mail address (see confirmation e-mail from the registration office).

2.    Secure your access outside the UNIGE network

• To access the UNIGE network when working/studying outside the University (using tools such as: VPN, VDI), an additional security code is required (in addition to your UNIGE login and password).
• To obtain this code, a strong authentication application must be used.

How to proceed:

1. Log on to my-account.unige.ch using your UNIGE login, your password and your smartphone
2. Enter your UNIGE login and password and click on "send me a code" to obtain the UNIGE/ISIs+ security code by SMS (see mobile phone number in the confirmation e-mail from the registration office)
3. From the "My ISIs+ strong authentication" section, click on the 'Install and configure my application' button and follow the instructions

3.    Link your UNIGE account with your SWITCH edu-ID account

• The SWITCH edu-ID account is required to access various digital services, not only from the UNIGE such as Moodle, Mediaserver, but also from other Swiss universities (UNIL, EPFL, HES,...) or other Swiss academic resources such as swisscovery.
• Before you can use it, you must link this account to your UNIGE account

How to proceed:

1. Log in to my-account.unige.ch with your UNIGE login and access the "My SWITCH edu-ID account" section
2. Click on the button** "Link my accounts" and follow the instructions.
   (**) : if the UNIGE and SWITCH accounts are already linked, the button is replaced by status: 'UNIGE account linked'
